Getting here.
From Lusaka to the River
From Lusaka, drive south towards Chirundu. Shortly before Chirundu, follow signs to nearby Zambezi lodges such as Gwabi, Kiambi or Muchichili, where secure parking and boat transfers can be arranged. Depending on your chosen launch point, the drive from Lusaka takes approximately 3.5–4.5 hours.
By Boat
From launch points like Gwabi, Kiambi, Woods Camp or Mukuyu, you will board a river boat for the final stretch to Tsika Island, travelling along the Zambezi among hippos, crocodiles and river birds.
Boat transfer times range from around 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on water levels and departure point.
By Plane.
Charter flights to nearby airstrips in the Lower Zambezi area can be arranged via partner operators; from there, road and boat transfers connect you to the island.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
Do I need a 4×4 vehicle?
A 4×4 is strongly recommended if you plan to drive to Mukuyu; the track can be sandy or muddy depending on the season.
Is Tsika Island in the national park?
Tsika Island is in the Game Management Area (GMA), just upstream from the Lower Zambezi National Park and opposite Mana Pools National Park.
Is the camp fenced?
No – Tsika is an unfenced bush camp in a wild area; wildlife moves freely through the property, so guests must follow safety guidelines at all times.
